Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a degree in a specific major to be considered for admission? Are there any prerequisite courses that I need to have taken?

Applicants do not need degrees in any specific major to be admitted into our program. No specific coursework is required.

If I don't have any journalism experience, do I have a chance of being admitted?

A lack of journalism experience does not make an applicant ineligible to apply. However, there has a highly selective admissions process. Many of our students had at least 2 years of journalism experience prior to starting the program at newspaper or media companies.

Are student dormitories or housing available?

Olivet School of Media and Communication does not offer on-campus dormitory facilities, but provides assistance to students in search of suitable housing. Please contact the OSMC main office to receive a list of housing resources in the area.

What is the average class size?

At OSMC, we try to keep class sizes small in order to provide a more interactive environment between instructor and students. On average, 8-12 students will be in a single course. Special lectures or seminars may have more students.

When should students apply to the Olivet School of Media and Communication?

Students can apply up to 2 years in advance. Students should apply and register at least 6 months before the start of each semester in order to be guaranteed courses and specific class times. Olivet School of Media and Communication accepts applications and registers students for classes through the second week of school. For more information on Applications, please visit our Admissions section.

What about internships for students?

Olivet School of Media and Communication offers internship opportunities through its Ministry Internship program. The school works with many ministry affiliates that offer a variety of positions. Internship opportunities are posted on MY OLIVET.
